After extensive planning, husband and wife co-owners Armando Hernandez and Nadia Holguin are ready to deliver world-class Chihuahuan cuisine to both the Culdesac Tempe neighborhood, and the broader community. Excellence runs in the family, as many of their other restaurants have been widely praised. Tacos Chiwas, Bacanora and Espiritu have all won numerous awards, with Tacos Chiwas recently featured on the Netflix documentary Taco Chronicles. This commitment to exceptional food has clearly extended to Cocina Chiwas. With its unique menu full of regionally specific Mexican food, it's sure to have something for everyone.
The restaurant’s interior has a refreshing but cozy ambiance that contrasts nicely against the bold exterior - creating an atmosphere that feels like you’ve been invited to someone’s home for dinner. All of the tables, chairs, and booths were built by Armando, and all of the restaurant's plates and bowls were handmade by a local ceramic artist. A custom made wood fired oven is the heart of the space, and offers the perfect way to cook the many appetizing dishes on the menu. The restaurant also has a large outdoor patio distinguished by its shimmering green tile bar - perfect for enjoying the beautiful Arizona sunsets while dining on delicious Chihuahuan fare. Food from the state of Chihuahua is known for perfectly grilled meats, fine flour tortillas, and delectable asadero cheese.
